PORTAL BIKES
Fabricating cargo bikes that create pathways out of poverty for Nepali entrepreneurs
CLIENT: Portal Bikes
LOCATION: Kathmandu, Nepal
ROLE: Photo, video, marketing collateral design
ASK: Portal is a non-profit based in Kathmandu, Nepal, which builds custom cargo bicycles to create pathways out of poverty. Due to a shortage of affordable vehicles in Nepal, their team saw the need for delivery workers, couriers, and schoolkids to have a safe and efficient method of transportation, so they refashion old bicycles into cargo bikes, which are sold in both Nepal and in the United States.
They wanted photos and video that told the story of their fabrication process, illustrated the need for these cargo bikes, and showed the problems the bikes might solve. The goal was for these visuals to inspire people to donate to their cause, purchase a Portal bike, visit Nepal, or sponsor a Nepali entrepreneur who uses a Portal bike to maximize their small business potential.
SOLUTION: The co-founders of Portal Bikes and I worked together over the course of several months to shoot creative lifestyle visuals, both photo and video, which they could use to update their website, post on social media, and use in their marketing campaigns, several of which I also designed for them.
Portal also works hand-in-hand with Epic Rides Nepal, a mountain bike guide company in Kathmandu, which pairs local, expert mountain bike guides with tourists who want to experience the beauty of Nepali trails.
